Coast Guard AwardMilitary decorations of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) are currently issued under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS is a Cabinet department of the United States federal government with primary responsibilities of protecting the territory of the United States from terrorist attacks and responding to natural disasters. USCG awards are similar to U.S. Navy decorations and Coast guardsmen are entitled to receive all authorized foreign awards, international decorations and inter-service decorations.

Korean WarKorean War

Korean War was a military conflict between the Republic of Korea, and People’s Republic of China and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, which began on June 25, 1950 and an armistice (ceasefire) signed on July 27, 1953.

After the start of the Korean conflict, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) established air detachments all over the Pacific. These detachments, situated at Sangley Point in the Barbers Point, Adak, Midway, Wake, Guam, and Philippines in the Hawaiian Islands, conducted Search and Rescue (SAR) operations to protect the thousands of United Nations (UN) troops that were being airlifted across the Pacific Ocean.

The academy is located in New London, Connecticut, United States, and is the smallest of the five federal service academies. It provides education to future Coast Guard officers.
